The Surge's Combat Is Fast, Technical, and Hardcore

After learning about the targeting, looting and equipping a couple of weeks ago, the teachings continue as we take a look at more combat details for Deck13's hardcore Action-RPG title The Surge. Surviving in the deadly CREO facility looks to be tough but rewarding as players will have their hands full trying to master the game's fast and technical combat system.

The Surge screens

When it comes to trying to slice and dice the limbs off your enemies, positioning and speed will be key. Make good use of your exo-enhanced dodges, blocks, ducks and jumps to avoid the enemies attacks but also keep an eye on your stamina. Get yourself in the right position, aim for the limb you want to take off and then strike at the right moment. A poor attempt will result in a wasted attempt and could leave you open to take damage. Both you and your enemy will follow the same rules of combat: should either of you take a blow to an unarmoured limb, it won't take long for you to go down.

The Surge screens

Stay on top of your enemy and work on their weaknesses while protecting your own and you'll be the one to walk away while also bagging your opponents strengths. During your time with The Surge, you won't be alone. Your personal industrial drone will assist you along the way with its abilities that were once used for CREO's industrial needs. These abilities have since been manipulated to turn the drone into somewhat of a fighting machine. The fighting will take place in a melee style but you will also be able to shield yourself, and burn, knock down, pull, and blast your enemies.

Take a look at the combat trailer to see the fighting in action:

A selection of art pieces have been released serving up visuals of different locations, enemies, and more:

A set of screens have also been released and showcase the game's main character doing battle against various types of enemies of all sorts of shapes and sizes an carrying different and deadly weapons:

The Surge will be releasing on the Xbox One on May 16th.
