TA Playlist Podcast Episode 1 - Alan Wake, April 2017 Now Available

By Mark Delaney,
Our inaugural month of TA Playlist is coming to a close, and that means our debut episode of the TA Playlist Podcast is here. Will, Kevin, and I got together recently to fully unravel the enigma of Remedy's 2010 thriller, Alan Wake.

Pictured: Not Alan Wake.Pictured: Not Alan Wake.

In this debut episode, we consider some early impressions of the game from both ourselves and the community and weigh the merits of its TV series presentation. Later, Will unloads on Alan as a character and Kevin doesn't exactly defend our titular novelist either. By the end, we're all still scratching our heads over the ending before we wrap it up with some achievement talk and a look ahead to May's game, Darksiders.

If you enjoy the podcast and would like to support it, please subscribe and consider leaving us a rating and review on iTunes. If you want to join in with our monthly Playlist event, find more information in our Playlist Hub, featuring forums, video clips, polls, and statistics. See you in May with Darksiders!

I didn't participate in playing the game even though I intended to but I just subscribed to the podcast and I will try to do better next month.

Well my first takeaway is how the dialogue in this game has daytime-soap levels of voice acting when you put it out of context in the podcast laugh

I didn't play the game sadly, but I've already had the ending spoiled several times over aaaand I'm pretty sure I'm going to hate it anyway, so I'm jumping straight into the podcast. Enjoying it so far! I wasn't expecting such a range of opinion across just the three of you, I wonder if that will carry through to next month? wink

Yea I'm about to finish it all as well, are you guys recording these podcasts earlier in the month before it is over? I would have finished the everything up earlier if I knew you were doing the podcast a week before the month ended...

We recorded it just days ago. We will never do it early in the month, always right at the end but giving ourselves a few days to edit it and get it out in the same month. The forums were active all month long though. What do you feel you missed out on with us having recorded already? That sort of feedback will be considered for how we operate the show.

Great job, guys! Really enjoyed this. Loved the occasional audio snippets from the game. This was a great start for TA Playlist. Part of what works here is that you guys represent a couple different gamer "styles" I guess? Fun to hear those perspectives bounce off each other. Good times. Looking forward to Darksiders!

Thanks for the mention too dance

This podcast doesn't seem to be showing up in the TrueAchievements Podcast link under Main Menu. Knew I saw an article for one so looked through the news articles instead.

Didn't play the game for this month, but I've needed an excuse to start Darksiders since it went free so I'll be jumping in for May. Love the podcasts, keep 'em coming!

Hell yes. This is an all-time favorite game of mine. The setting, the narrative, the simple elegance of the gameplay... all the boxes were ticked. I was pleased to see a quasi-sequel, though disappointed it wasn't worth my gamerscore. I would love to see this franchise revived for the Xbone.

Thanks for the awesome feedback guys. The podcast will get recorded around the 20th each month. We want to get it recorded to ensure everyone has time to listen to it before they start the next month's game if they want to.

Just finished listening. Awesome first episode guys. Nice balance of opinions and good structure addressing the various elements of the game. Mentioning community comments and including audio snippets from the game were great touches. Stats were cool too but the recording date obviously has a bit of an impact on these.

My favourite part was when you mentioned that Chewie guy. Sounds like a legend. I reckon here's where you picked up my Barry love from Mark.
    TA Top Five: Sidekicks

Looking forward to May as Darksiders sits in the backlog unstarted whereas I'd done everything I feel I reasonably can in Wake without some effort (Nightmare, thermoses, no death DLC).

Really enjoyed listening to this show. To me Alan Wake is the best single player experience for Xbox 360 so naturally I voted for it for the month. It was nice hearing multiple viewpoints on the game, looking forward to next month. toast

Thanks very much for listening. It means a lot to me and I'm sure I speak for my co-hosts as well. It's fun to do and we hope to have many more months ahead with the community.

Enjoyed the podcast and hearing multiple opinions. I thought it was great not everyone enjoyed the game bc I heard things from a different POV from my own. I think my favorite part was talking about how Allen wasn't a likeable guy. I liked the game but never thought of it this way and agreed Allen and I would not be friends in real life haha.

Just got done listening. Good insight and I appreciate the commentary even though most werent excited about it like I was.

To touch on some of the highlights:
In game ads -tacky but generally didnt distract.
Collectibles - I dont mind them, but wish I didnt have to use a guide to find them. Most of the time this means multiple playthroughs for me because I want to be immersed in the game and hunting for things takes away from that
Story - I enjoyed the story, and I got more out of it the second time through on nightmare. Loved the radio shows adding local flavor to the story and manuscript pages filling in some of the pieces.

Looking forward to more community picks.
