Mark Little, Visual Concepts' executive producer for the upcoming WWE 2K18
, posted a blog post recently via the game's official website with a huge amount of details on some of the features included in the next instalment for the series. The information provided in the post focuses on "Being Like No One", the realism, and why WWE 2K18
looks to be the most comprehensive WWE
title to date.
Be Like No One
Players have been able to "Be Like No One" for many years now thanks to having the option to create their own wrestling superstar. The Creation Suite will be making a return, of course, but will offer improvements to Create-a-Superstar, Create-an-Arena and Create-a-Video. If you're one of those who loves to spend time watching fantastic and crowd-pleasing replays, the ability to save replays and play around with a free-roaming camera will be great news as you'll be able to edit and upload some wrestling masterpieces. Create-a-Match will also come with a new feature that allows players to create a custom set of rules for a match, then save them and use them later on for either Play Now matches or the WWE Universe.
A new MyPLAYER experience will also be on offer and introduces fighting styles, as well as a brand new upgrade and progression system. Eight different fighting styles will be on offer, each coming with their own positives and negatives that means that not one style will be better than all of the rest.
To further enhance the MyPLAYER experience, a brand new MyCAREER mode will be available that incorporates a new story. Players can mingle with other superstars of the WWE
by free-roaming in the backstage area. The narrative will be affected by the conversations you have with the other wrestlers. You may not like what someone said to you, you may want to be a solo wrestler, or you might enjoy brown-nosing the General Managers and want to align with them. The choice is yours and the MyPLAYER experience will come with many different choices and different ways to experience the unfolding stories.
With your unbeatable and untouchable MyPLAYER character, check out the new Road to Glory Mode and square off against other MyPLAYER characters from other players in the online world. Details are scarce at the minute regarding this mode but we do know that players will battle each other in an effort to qualify for WWE
pay-per-view events. This should make for some pretty intense competition and matches.
As the years go by for gaming as a whole, the graphics just continue to get better and more realistic in most games. WWE 2K18
will be sporting an entirely new graphics engine that delivers "spectacular new lighting, more realistic skin and new camera effects". From the superstars themselves to the massive crowds within the detailed arenas, the visuals of the upcoming title will be the best the series has offered yet.
Providing the all-important commentary in the game will be the trio of Michael Cole, Byran Saxton and Corey Graves. Crowd sounds will be improved with authentic crowd chants to really give the WWE
experience that authentic feel. Visual Concepts is hoping that those watching you play won't be able to tell the difference between the game and what fans get to see every week on TV and at live events.
Most Comprehensive WWE Game to DateWWE 2K18
will offer improved gameplay and new ways to enjoy the madness, mayhem, and destruction that wrestling fans know and love. Take part in eight-person matches, Ladder matches, the Royal Rumble, Eight-Person Tags, or try your luck in a Battle Royal.
Mark goes on to detail more of the Royal Rumble's match mechanics as well as the new carry system, which is yet to receive more details:
Speaking of Royal Rumble matches, we also revamped these by implementing new elimination mechanics, a quick elimination system, new match-specific finishers and new elimination sequences. With eight WWE Superstars in the ring, combined with the new mechanics, the Royal Rumble is better than ever.
WWE 2K18 also sees the addition of a new carry system, which we’ll share more details on in the future, as well as thousands of new animations. These are just a few of the changes we made with the gameplay for WWE 2K18 as we develop the most complete WWE simulation experience.
Universe Mode will also see a few changes in the upcoming title. The story will be more flexible in the way that different storylines play out. Interaction with the superstars can build up to rivalries, which will effect how and what stories will unfold. The new story system will include "very diverse pay-per-view calendars" as it will stick closely with the real-life WWE
's current PPV schedule. How this will affect your player-created custom PPV calendars is yet to be revealed. The story mode itself, though, will be full of new cutscenes, a new Power Rankings system and a new Superstar goal feature that will be announced "in the future".
The online experience will also be improved for WWE 2K18
. The only example provided so far is in regards to the search system for Community Creations, where the team wants to ensure that everyone will be able to find the best user-created content. More improvements will be revealed at a later date.
To top it all off, the roster looks to be the largest in WWE
gaming history, but specific wrestlers included in the roster are yet to be confirmed. So far, we know that WWE
Hall of Famer Kurt Angle, who's also currently the general manager for RAW, will be available as a playable character for those who pre-order a copy of the game.
Mark also announced that a new WWE 2KDev Spotlight
series will be kicking off later this week, so we'll be sure to have you covered on the upcoming videos and other details as and when they are revealed.
