Project Dark, the next project from From Software, the team behind the masochistic PS3 RPG Demon's Souls
, has been officially renamed as Dark Souls
, while being the sequel to Demon's Souls
, does not have a direct connection to Demon's Souls
. However, the core gameplay is said to be similar to Demon's Souls
, in that character development still remains similar to that of classic RPGs. However, From Software removed character classes in order to create a more free-form playstyle.
In addition to removing classes, From Software is also ditching the hub-based area system in favor of more open areas, which are said to be more numerous and diverse than the areas of Demon's Souls
will retain the indirect multiplayer elements of its predecessor, allowing players to see visions of other players, write messages for other players, and even summon other players for when they need assistance. However, since Dark Souls will not be on its own server, world and character tendencies will not be returning.
The cherry on top? Dark Souls
will be more difficult than Demon's Souls
has been stamped with a very wide 2011 release window by its international publisher, Namco Bandai.
