Vote Now for September 2017's TA Playlist Game

By Mark Delaney, 2 years ago
As our senior year at Arcadia Bay's Blackwell Academy dramatically unfolds, rewinds, and unfolds again, it's now the middle of the month, which means it's time to pick what we'll be playing next month for TA Playlist. This month's quartet of poll options was the toughest to decide so far. For whatever reason, Will, Kevin and I deliberated and debated for many weeks before we landed on a solid four that we could all agree on. The end result is the list you see below you. Remember, whichever game finishes as runner-up will be seen again in the next second chance poll which will take place for January. Happy voting! We'll see you in a week with the results.

Dark Souls

Ornstein and Smough

Dark Souls is an action RPG (role playing game) set in a rich, dark fantasy universe. Tense dungeon crawling, fearsome enemy encounters and groundbreaking online features combine for a truly unique RPG experience. Dark Souls breaks down barriers with a seamless world design that encourages exploration and fosters an adaptable gameplay experience. The unerring foundation of challenge and reward will engulf you and offer an unparalleled sense of achievement.

Mafia III

Screen 11

It’s 1968 and after years of combat in Vietnam, Lincoln Clay knows this truth: family isn’t who you’re born with, it’s who you die for. Now back home in New Bordeaux, Lincoln is set on escaping a criminal past. But when his surrogate family, the black mob, is betrayed and wiped out by the Italian Mafia, Lincoln builds a new family on the ashes of the old and blazes a path of military-grade revenge through those responsible. Intense gun fights, visceral hand-to-hand combat, white knuckle driving and street smarts will all be needed. But with the right crew, tough decisions and some dirty hands, it’s possible to make it to the top of the city's underworld.

Mirror's Edge Catalyst

Carousel

Follow Faith, a daring free runner, as she fights for freedom in the city of Glass. What appears to be an elegant, high-tech city on the outside, has a terrible secret hidden within. Explore every corner from the highest beautifully lit rooftops to the dark and gritty tunnels below. The city is huge, free to roam and Faith in at the center of it all. Through the first-person perspective, combine her fluid movement and advanced combat with the city's surroundings to master the environment and uncover the conspiracy. This is Mirror's Edge for this generation, raising the bar for immersion in action-adventure games.

All but one of the games (Dark Souls) is only available on Xbox One, while Dark Souls is both backwards compatible and has an achievement-enabled PC version. As always, any version of any game will count toward participation in the monthly event.

We hope you see something you like in this month's poll. As a tease for the remainder of the year, we wanted to clue in our dedicated community regarding what's ahead for the rest of the year.

Without giving away the specific games we'll be putting in the polls we can tell you October will be horror themed, November will focus on some shorter games so we don't take up too much of your busy holiday season, and December will close out our first Playlist year by focusing on a few of the biggest and (supposedly) best games of the year. Hopefully by then we can all grab some of them during the Black Friday and holiday sales.

Stay tuned for the poll results, and of course there's still time to join us in our ongoing discussion all about Dontnod's Life Is Strange.
