When EA took to the stage at Gamescom, their aim was to showcase some of their biggest upcoming content. They kicked this off with a new trailer and gameplay footage from Star Wars Battlefront II
that demonstrated the return of space battles, something that was sorely missing from the previous title.
The Starfighter Assault gameplay mode pits two teams of players against each other as they fly through the Imperial dockyards, weaving through asteroids and taking down huge Capital ships. The mode has been developed by Criterion, known for their vehicle work in the Need for Speed
franchise, and is shown off in the trailer below.
The trailer was followed by nearly ten minutes of Starfighter Assault gameplay. 24 players faced off in a dogfight in the Fondor: Imperial Shipyard map where the class-based ships fought over objectives around an Imperial Star Destroyer. The ships included "speedy fighters, thundering bombers" and hero ships from all three eras of Star Wars
. Did the Rebel Alliance beat the Imperial Navy or did the Galactic Empire prove to be infallible?
If that gameplay wasn't enough, Criterion's Producer Rob Wyle and Designer John Stanley gave Playstation blog some hands-on time with the mode.
EA also brought along a handful of new screenshots to showcase the new mode in still format.
You'll get to try the mode for yourself when the title is released on November 17th.
