Massive Entertainment has released details on the second free update to come in Year Two of their open world shooter Tom Clancy's The Division. Update 1.8: Resistance will be the game's biggest update yet. It comes with an expansion to the map, two new game modes (one for PvP and one for PvE), and a whole lot more.

Update 1.8 screens

The various enemy factions in Manhattan have been causing never-ending trouble for players, but now your troubles just got a whole lot worse as the seemingly defeated factions have now started working together against their common enemy. Last seen converging towards the newly expanded sector, The Division must investigate the West Side Pier, the new area spread across two new zones, to confirm that the likes of the Rioters, Rikers, Cleaners, and the Last Man Battalion are definitely forging an alliance. As you check out what's made the enemy so interested in this location, you will also be able to take part in two new game modes:

Resistance (PvE mode) – In Resistance, the different factions are teaming up for the first time to fight against Division agents. Varied enemy NPCs continuously spawn in waves as up to four agents try to survive for as long as they can and earn rewards.

Skirmish (PvP mode) – In Skirmish, two teams of four players compete against each other to get the highest number of kills before the time expires. Teams earn points each time a downed enemy player is eliminated.
Before you head out into the new area, be sure to rally with other agents in the new social hub at Camp Clinton.

Update 1.8 will also come with improvements to the "Underground" DLC, changes to the rogue mechanics, and an optimisation of the gear system. More details are yet to be revealed, but for now we have a couple of screens showcasing the huge and jaw dropping Intrepid, the famous aircraft carrier as well as different factions squaring off against each other.
