The Crew 2 Hands-on Gameplay Footage from Gamescom 2017

At this year's Gamescom, Rich and I attended a developer session for Ivory Tower's upcoming open-world racer, The Crew 2, where we able to capture footage of our hands-on time with the game.

The 30-minute long guided session began with exploring the game's Manhattan Island in free roam, where we were encouraged to try the seamless vehicle switching that allows you to quickly swap between a land, air or water based vehicle within a fraction of a second. Dubbed by Ubisoft as the "Fast Fav" system, players can preset a favourite vehicle for each of the three modes of transport and switch between them by using the right thumbstick, without any need to slow down or pause the game.

Clicking the right joystick immediately brings up a three-option radial menu that displays the three transport types, allowing you to aim the stick in the direction of vehicle to which you want to switch. Within a second, your car can morph into a plane where you'll need to pull up quickly to avoid the oncoming traffic before you fly over a body of water and switch to a speedboat to carry on your journey.

After playing in the open-world, we were then shown around the The Crew 2's video editing mode that will constantly record the last 10-minutes of gameplay and comes with an impressive range of editing options so you can capture and share your highlights from the game. When editing a clip in "Live Replay" mode, there are a decent variety of preset camera angles for you to use, along with a free cam option to help get the perfect angle. Most impressively of all, however, is the ability to change the time of day and weather settings within the video editor to help make each clip look as good as possible.

To finish off the session we got to try our hand at Motorcross, drift and open-wheel Grand Prix style racing against a rival journalist and some AI, which you can see in the video below. The variety of different race types in the game is impressive and that's before you take in to account that you'll also be able to race in planes and boats as well.

The Crew 2 is scheduled to release on March 16th, 2018.
