New details were released on Frau Engel, the main antagonist in the upcoming alt-reality game Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus
. We were first introduced to the evil of Frau Engel in the 2014 release Wolfenstein: The New Order
and in that game, she gets what she deserves as is fitting based on her evilness and as is normal for happy endings for most video games. Now, in The New Colossus
, Frau Engel is back and she is understandably upset.
Now, Frau Engel wants revenge. She has a huge air fortress, the Ausmerzer, at her disposal. The game starts with BJ Blazkowicz (the protagonist, of course) in the sickbay of the Evas Hammer, a submarine for the Resistance. Frau Engel shows up to attack (think of wheelchairs), not only for revenge but because the Nazis are afraid of BJ, or as they call him, Terror-Billy.
Frau Engel is played by Nina Franoszek, who at first was reluctant to take the role, having no experience with video games. She was swayed by the power of the script, which she compared to Inglourious Basterds
. Even so, as a German, she was conflicted by playing someone so obviously painful for the German people. The relationship between BJ and Engel is one of love and hate, something Matthias (director of the game) asserts is akin to a lover. Matthias claims Frau Engel is following an ideology, something in which she firmly believes. Franoszek was able to make this believable because she says it makes sense from the perspective of the character. Engel is clearing the world of evil, and her worldview is unalterable and very much black and white.Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus
is set for release on October 27th.
