Guardians of Arcadia Announced for Xbox One

Developer FABULA EPICA has announced their project Guardians of Arcadia. They hope it will tap into gamers' nostalgia for the JRPGs of the 1990s. Described as "a truly nostalgic JRPG experience," Guardians of Arcadia offers "chibi character design, random battles, a strategic turn-based combat system, and a fully 3D explorable world."

The plot centers around Hikaru and Aki, a brother and sister who set out to end the reign of terror from General Nero of Baikal, "whose highly advanced weapons have been terrorizing kingdoms around the world." The siblings will discover General Nero's "increasingly sinister plot" and meet unlikely characters along the way.

  • Experience full control in battle! Create flexible strategies by exploiting enemies’ weaknesses without time limits
  • A fully 3D explorable world! You have access to the entire world map, and unique vehicles in which to explore it. The sky is your limit!
  • No barriers to entry! Explore the beautiful fantasy world of Arcadia with low hardware requirements and simple controls, just like the old days.
  • Multi-language support! Play Guardians of Arcadia® in English, Japanese, Spanish and Portuguese at launch!

The title also has some marketing that calls it "Episode 1" which implies future installments may be planned.

Guardians of Arcadia will launch on Xbox One in early 2018. It's also coming to the Windows 10 store, but it's not clear if that version will have Xbox Live support with achievements.
