The Tides of China Patch Launches for Xbox SMITE

By Kelly Packard,
Following delays related to the Xbox One X enhancements certification process, SMITE's "Tides of China" patch is ready for a Monday, November 6th launch on Xbox One. The patch brings the fourth installment in The Odyssey event, the SWC Digital Loot Pack, some noticeable visual updates to items and more.

The newest Odyssey 2018 items will arrive with the patch, which is numbered 4.20. There are two new skins, Pixel Rush He Bo and Sand Viper Ao Kuang. Both are regularly priced at 500 gems but can be purchased for 400 gems until the 4.21 patch launches. There is also the Super Chill Announcer Pack for 280 gems, or 350 regularly.

Along with the items, the rest of The Odyssey is moving on as well. The Chinese quest line has opened up, offering seven more quests for players to complete to earn Odyssey Points. Similar to the other pantheon quest lines, completing all seven quests will reward a loading screen. Speaking of Odyssey Points, the 42,000 Odyssey Point collection reward is now available: Super Chill Bacchus.

There has also been a handful of skins unrelated to The Odyssey added. Aside from a He Bo mastery skin rework, all the spotlighted skins are part of the SWC 2018 Digital Loot Pack. Digital Loot Packs are released every year in preparation for the SMITE World Championships, offering a mix of Limited and Exclusive skins. They also offer a roll of the Divine Chest, rolls of which are hard to come by and provide past convention and World Championship skins. The Digital Loot Pack is available for 1,500 gems.

Within a match, players will also notice the item icons have been overhauled and many have new pictures. According to developer Hi-Rez, this was done "to make them more consistent with their item tree’s color scheme." For example, Bancroft's Talon is now a bluish color to maintain consistency with other lifesteal items in its item tree.

As far as balance goes, there have been some changes. Amaterasu, Kumbhakarna, Guan Yu, Poseidon and Zeus have been buffed. Artio, Izanami and Raijin have been nerfed. For items, Executioner and Shield of Thorns have been nerfed, and Soul Eater has been revamped.

While it wasn't specifically mentioned in the patch notes, the patch was delayed on Xbox One because of the Xbox One X enhancements, so presumably they should be available to download when the patch launches.

Hi-Rez also provided plenty of spoils for the next patch, "Shadows Over Hercopolis" — it launches today for PC players and includes a new Adventure and a new goddess — as well as future Odyssey spoilers like the Tier 5 Ullr skin. If it follows the usual patch schedule, it should be released next week on consoles, but Hi-Rez has said on Twitter that they hope to release it sooner.

The "Tides of China" patch will go live on Monday, November 6th in the morning (ET). As always, you can view the full patch notes on SMITE's official site.
