Star Wars Battlefront II Patch Drastically Reduces Prices on Heroes

As microtransactions and loot boxes continue to dishearten the gaming community more than ever before, at least some complaints are being heard loudly and clearly. That's evidenced by today's patch for Star Wars Battlefront II that drastically cuts the cost of unlocking heroes by a massive 75%.

Players taking part in the Play First trial via EA Access over the past few days were bemoaning the prices on unlocking some of the franchise's biggest names, like Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, and even DICE's protagonist Iden Versio. Some characters, like the iconic villain in black, cost 60,000 credits, which would take you about 40 hours of in-game multiplayer as some players estimated. The characters to be unlocked are numerous, which meant that gathering enough credits to unlock the full roster of just the launch day heroes — to say nothing of those to be added later — would take players hundreds of hours before today's patch.

Emperor Palpatine is among the characters getting a massive cut in cost today, thanks to player backlash.Emperor Palpatine is among the characters getting a massive cut in cost today, thanks to player backlash.

Alternatively, and here's where EA's intent becomes really transparent, players could buy credits to unlock characters much quicker, but players complained of the enormous cost. Today's patch seeks to quell those complaints with all heroes now costing 75% less. Darth Vader and others that were priced at 60,000 credits have dropped all the way to 15,000, or about ten hours of playtime, for example.

EA released an official statement on the matter after their attempt to save face on Reddit became the most downvoted comment in the history of the website.
We’re reducing the amount of credits needed to unlock the top heroes by 75%. Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader will now be available for 15,000 credits; Emperor Palpatine, Chewbacca, and Leia Organa for 10,000 credits; and Iden at 5,000 credits. Based on what we’ve seen in the trial, this amount will make earning these heroes an achievement, but one that will be accessible for all players.
