Development Ceased for The Culling

By Kelly Packard,
It's hard to browse Xbox Live or Steam without bumping into a battle royale game at every turn. The Culling is one that was established fairly early, entering Steam's Early Access program in 2016. Despite this, The Culling has since been trumped by games like H1Z1: King of the Kill, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and Fortnite. A whole lot of negative user reviews didn't help either. Developer Xaviant Games has announced they are bowing out of the competition and will not release any more updates for The Culling.

The Culling

The Culling only released on Xbox One through Game Preview in July and officially released on October 5th. Xaviant's official release announcement promised "more to look forward to in the future." With the end of development announcement, it seems those future plans are no more.

Xaviant's Final Island Diary elaborates that Xaviant "can’t help but feel a sense of pride for having been part of [the battle royale genre's] birth." Nothing has been announced yet, but the developer plans to "make something very special and just as dear to our hearts" for their next game.

While updates will no longer be released, The Culling's servers "will remain live for the foreseeable future."
