If you've been meaning to register for this year's Great TrueAchievements Score Challenge but haven't gotten around to it yet, this is a final reminder that the registration period closes on Sunday, January 7th at 11:59 PM GMT
If this is the first time you've heard about GTASC 2018 or if you need a refresher on how the contest will work, here are the details.
What are the requirements for participating?
- Have an Xbox LIVE Gamertag with at least 20,000 GamerScore.
- Have a TrueAchievements account in good standing for a minimum of six months.
- Register on the GTASC 2018 Contest Hub to enter the event.
How does scoring work?
When you unlock achievements and then scan them into TrueAchievements, your score is recalculated and your score rises based on the new achievements earned. You will notice that your score on TrueAchievements changes from day to day even if you don't unlock any achievements. This fluctuation is also taken into account as regards to your score for the period. New games often have TA scores that inflate rapidly and then slowly drop down as more and more gamers complete them. This needs to be taken into consideration when choosing which games to play and when. Also, any achievements unlocked while disconnected from LIVE will not count toward your score. You can play however and whenever you wish, but to keep a level playing field in the contest we are only counting achievements won while online.
For each scoring period, all scores reset at the new time of 4 PM UTC Wednesday
, which is usually 11 AM US Eastern Wednesday morning. At that time, the lowest scoring teams and individuals will be removed from the competition. It is up to each team or individual to keep themselves above the bar at the end of the period. Any teams or individuals below that bar will be eliminated from the competition at the end of the period and will not enter into the next.
What has changed?
The team size has been decreased to two. Grab a friend or simply register and be assigned to a randomly generated team when registration closes.
Registration for the Team contest does not
enter you into the Individual contest this year. This will hopefully cut down the size of the solo pool to a point where we aren't cutting uninterested players for as long as we did in the past. Additionally, it will hopefully ramp up the competition a bit more, as well, albeit having a smaller base than previous years.
The periods start and end on Wednesday at 4 PM UTC
. This is a change of day and two hours later than the period roll in 2017.
So how do I make a team?
If you are looking to participate only in the solo event, simply registering for that event will throw your hat into the ring.
If you are looking to participate as a team, one member will take on the role of Captain for the purposes of recruiting a teammate. Team captains create a team on the Hub Page and invite their fellow teammate. Teammates are sent a PM and can join the team via that message.
If you don't have a friend that wishes to enter the contest, you can still join one of our randomly created teams.
