The Hi-Rez Expo has been going on all week, which is like Christmas for SMITE
fans. Following on from Thursday's keynote conference — Hi-Rez revealed
upcoming god Cerberus, two new pantheons and the Season 5 map — players can take a look at the full Warden of the Underworld patch notes
Warden of the Underworld is numbered patch 4.25, and it's the last patch of the season. Hi-Rez has been advertising the patch to be light on balance since the bulk of the changes will be coming with Season 5. The biggest draw of 4.25 is the addition of Cerberus to the god roster, but we now also know Cerberus' launch is accompanied by a new event called Ragnarok.

Ragnarok spans three patches. With each patch, a purchasable bundle and three quests will be added. Bundles include keys. After completing three quests, players can use their key to open an Awesome chest (Awesome chests include a guaranteed exclusive skin). Players who purchase all three bundles will get access to a limited Hades skin. Limited, of course, means the skin will never be available again once the event completes. Players who buy all the bundles also don't need to complete the quests to receive the Awesome chests, so don't worry about the quests if you're the type of player who buys all the cosmetics.
The first set of quests will be as follows:
- The Battle Begins - Deal 20,000 Damage
- Surtr’s Wrath - Slay 1 Jungle Boss
- The Bloody Battle - Get 30 kills/assists
Now that the patch notes are out, we can also take a closer look at Cerberus' kit. He's a Guardian with a potent anti-heal passive and what looks to be a lot of damage and crowd control.
Passive – Spirit of Death
Any time an Enemy God within 40 of Cerberus is healed, Cerberus receives 40% of the heal, and the Enemy’s heal is reduced by 20%.
Cerberus’s snake tail spits venom that passes through and damages Enemies. If Cerberus’s dog heads are Alert, they then also spit venom when the ability is fired. Each head is alerted upon hitting an Enemy with a Basic Attack, and all are alerted after Ghastly Breath. Each projectile that hits the same target deals 20% less damage, but hitting an Enemy with all 4 Stuns them.
Each of Cerberus’s 3 heads releases a cone of noxious breath in front of them, damaging all enemies in range 7 times over 2.4s and reducing their Protections up to three times. Enemies in the center of his breath are also Slowed up to three times. This attack immediately puts all three of Cerberus’s heads on Alert for Paralyzing Spit.
Cerberus leaps a short distance forward, dealing damage on impact and severing the souls of Enemies. These souls will not block Cerberus’s attacks, and killing the souls heals Cerberus.
Cerberus’s haunting wail summons below him the souls of the damned, which then lift all Enemy Gods into the air while stretching the link between their bodies and souls, Damaging them. A short time later, Cerberus uses this link to pull the Enemies to him.
With patch 4.25, there will be four exclusive skins added. Brimstone Demon Thor and Brimstone Beast Camazotz are part of the Ragnarok event. In addition, Sweet Tooth Sol and Grove Keeper Xing Tian will be added.
As far as balance goes, the slight changes Hi-Rez referenced are all buffs for several characters: Anhur, Chaac, Hun Batz, Terra and Zhong Kui. There are no nerfs to any gods and no changes to any items.
Also of important note is that both The Odyssey and Shadows Over Hercopolis events end with patch 4.25, which launches on January 9th for PC with consoles following a week later on January 16th. This means players will never be able to purchase the limited Frostfire Ullr skin ever again following this date, as well as the limited Agent of Darkness Loki skin. The earlier Adventures bundles, each of which included a limited skin, are still purchasable on the SMITE
store right now, but presumably those will also be removed with patch 4.25.
