As we talked about last year
, the Xbox is gathering quite a collection of thoughtful, intelligent, smaller independent science fiction titles. The Station
is an upcoming game that can be added to that list as it takes players on a first-person adventure on a seemingly abandoned space station.
The Espial Space Station is set up to monitor an alien civilization on Psy-Prime and is tasked with evaluating if co-habitation could be possible. Unfortunately, contact with the station was lost. Upon arrival, players discover that the power has been cut and the crew are nowhere to be seen. Stepping into the shoes of a recon specialist, the player must restore the station's core functions and investigate the mystery of what happened, which will ultimately impact the fate of two civilizations.
Dave Fracchia, the game's Executive Producer and former Studio Head at Radical Entertainment had the following to say about the team's efforts to set a high benchmark for atmospheric narratives:
Our goal is to challenge what people expect from atmospheric mysteries. By abandoning player-driven dialogue we are able to replicate the emptiness and loneliness of space, while still enthralling with a pressure-packed mystery. The Station
will be released on February 20th, 2018.
