If the weather has taken a turn for the worse and you're looking for an excuse not to leave the house this weekend, Rare may just have given you the excuse you needed. This weekend they'll be holding the latest scale test for their upcoming Sea of Thieves, ahead of its release later this month.

Sea of Thieves

Xbox Insiders on both Xbox One and Windows 10 will be eligible to take part in this test. You'll need to download the Xbox Insider Hub from the Microsoft Store to gain access. If you're not sure how to find it once you've downloaded the hub, follow these instructions:

  1. Launch the Xbox Insider Hub.
  2. From the main landing page, select Insider content from menu to the left.
  3. Under Games, select Sea of Thieves or Sea of Thieves Scale Test.
  4. Select Join.
  5. Wait to be redirected to the Store, then download and play Sea of Thieves!
The features included in the scale test are similar to those players have seen in the Closed Beta. Only voyages connected to the Gold Hoarder trading company will be active. The aim of the scale test is to push player numbers to their highest peak so far and really test server strain. The developer warns that there might be outages or some features that don't quite work correctly as a result.

The scale test is running right now and will be available until Sunday, March 4th at 10am GMT (2am PST). If you would rather wait until the game is released in full, you'll be able to get your hands on it on March 20th. Pre-orders are already available through the Microsoft Store, although alternatively the game will be available from day one through Xbox Game Pass.
