The drone cuts across the blue sky as the air strike sequence initialises. The player has one shot remaining, so it has to count. The missile is launched, and fire rains down from the sky above an abandoned National Fuel gas station. The view from the ground cuts to a black screen, as the female radio operator calmly says; "Target damage confirmed."
This is the beginning of the new 'Multiplayer Carnage' trailer for THQ's upcoming first person shooter Homefront
. The trailer is made up entirely of gameplay footage, and features helicopters, drones, tanks, and much more.
THQ have recently been making a foray into live action footage as well. In what seems to be a theme with nursery rhymes at the moment, after Dead Space 2
's Ring Around the Rosie trailer, or the more recent Anarchy Reigns Ten Green Bottles
trailer, the Homefront
TV commercial, which is showing currently, combines live action with gameplay to the soundtrack of a child humming "Pop Goes The Weasel".
In an attempt to make the civilian presence more relevant to prospective players, THQ has also made two live action shorts to attempt to bring home the reality of war and living in an occupied country. The first short is titled "Inside the Occupation":
I'm an operative for the Voice of Freedom, an underground network dedicated to broadcasting the truth about the occupation of America.
It's been 2 years since this country fell into the dark ages and I've journeyed across parts of occupied America, witnessing firsthand the struggle and horror of life within this warzone.
I fear my days are numbered. I have to share the truth about what I've seen and what's really happening in what was once the greatest country on earth.
I don't agree with or condone everything documented here. All of it is honest. Let each individual decide.
If your blood is stirred by what you see here, join us in the Resistance. Let freedom ring!
The second short is purported to be footage recovered in the aftermath of the Salt Lake City Bombing by KPA forces, May 16th 2026.
is due to be released on March 15th, 2011 in North America, March 17th in Australia, and March 18th in Europe. A Japanese release date has not been confirmed. Check out the pre-order bonuses here
