EA Announces Free World Cup Update For FIFA 18

By Andy Mills,
If you have even a casual awareness of football, you'll know that it's the World Cup this summer. In the past, that's meant a game from EA to accompany the event. This time out, however, EA has opted to instead add the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia to FIFA 18 via a free update.

The free update will come with a few modes:

  • 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, in which players will play through the World Cup with the exact teams and fixtures that will happen in real life — no taking Andy Robertson and Scotland to glory for me in that one then
  • Custom FIFA World Cup Tournament where players can build a custom version of the tournament starring any country licensed in FIFA 18, including some big hitters like Italy, Netherlands, Chile and the US
  • The FIFA World Cup Kick-Off allows players to jump into an offline match using official teams, players, kits and stadiums from the World Cup
  • FIFA World Cup Ultimate Team where players can build a dream team with stars from all 32 squads as well as some legends like Ronaldinho.
Finally, striving to be as authentic as possible, all 12 stadiums from Saint Petersburg to Moscow have been recreated in all their splendour.

The free 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia update makes its way to FIFA 18 on May 29th, giving us all plenty of time to live out our dreams before almost all of them are dashed when the real thing kicks off on June 14th.

We've got the full list of FIFA 18 achievements - check the list for guides to unlocking them.

After the trash that 2014 was, this was not surprising. A commercial and gameplay failure. I got a second yellow for being offside. The game was broke and dead from day one. We had to boost the achievements immediately. I would have returned it to the shop but I popped an achievement for beating a friend's score or something along those lines.

Hopefully no new achievements. Boycott Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022.

They don't have a team of "superstars" though. In every World Cup, England comes in as a "top 5" team to compete for the Cup, only to have disappointing (to the point of being embarrassing) campaigns.

You'd be hard pushed to say we have any superstars now! Not much of the team inspire me at all.

I hope they do better than recent attempts though, my second team is Scotland (being 1/4 Scottish) and my third is always Italy (Roberto Baggio was my favourite all time player).

    Who are the superstars?shock.
Only genuine world class player england have had was Gerrard

wudnt say its entirely Englands teams fault, their media builds them up to believing they are better than they are

You may have not noticed that I said "superstars" (that's with quotes), not just superstars.

What I meant (primarily) was that England has had some of the highest paid players in the world, coming exclusively (or almost exclusively, in the past) from arguably the world's best league. So expectations should be high.

As for talented players, there have been quite a few in the recent history. Gerrard, Becks, Rio, Terry, Lampard, Shearer etc.

The press are a joke. Gerrard being the only world class player we had is laughable as well.

Scholes, Lampard, Owen, Rooney, Linekar, Shearer, Rio, Terry, Beckham, Ashley Cole, Gary Neville, etc. That is just in my lifetime, never mind the dozens beforehand.

This might work in England's favour though. Southgate has dropped big names in benefit of the team.

They have had it as dlc previous and that had achievements not sure whether it was free or not though and the reason they will not charge for the dlc is cause they will make enough off ultimate team anyway
