Weekend Announcements May 4-6th: Tour de France 2018, Play With Me and More

By Rebecca Smith,
Last weekend may well have been a bank holiday in the UK, but that didn't mean things went quiet. Instead, we have seven new titles to bring to your attention. Some are confirmed for Xbox, some are only confirmed for the infamous "consoles", but they still may be of interest. The list is below; see if there's something that attracts your attention.

Airport Simulator 2018

The simulator genre was previously most at home on PC, but in recent months, more and more are heading towards consoles. Toplitz Productions' upcoming title is no different. Unsurprisingly, players manage an airport, making sure that all planes' visits run smoothly while the passengers have a good time while they're there. The title is aimed at genre beginners, as well as "simulator-pros" and is heading to unspecified consoles this summer.

Disco Dodgeball Remix

As they push further into the publishing market, ZEN Studios revealed they've signed an agreement with 82 Apps to bring their upcoming title to Xbox One on May 22nd. Promising to be "your new favorite sport-type-thing", the game combines first-person shooter with dodgeball and places it into a series of arenas. Killer robots throw dodgeballs at each other for one hit kills, using powerups and trick shots for extra boosts, all while avoiding their opponents' shots with "skateboard-style movement". The title will include a single-player mode, as well as local and online multiplayer.

Lily's Epic Quest for Lost Gems

Previously released on mobile platforms, Studio Craft's title now makes it to Xbox One. Players assume the role of the titular Lily, a young girl trying to follow in the footsteps of her archaeologist grandfather. Through match 3 puzzles, she can clear paths through the layers of the ground to locate rare gems and artifacts. Unlike other match 3 titles, this one allows players to move around the playing field, making their own decisions on where to dig or how to solve the puzzles. Pick your strategy and give the title a go when it is released on May 16th.

Play With Me

Loosely inspired by SAW, AIREM's upcoming "point-and-click adventure game with horror-elements" puts players in the shoes of Robert Hawk, who has been kidnapped alongside his wife Sara. Investigating officers believe the pair have been captured by a serial killer known as Illusion, who Robert has been investigating for quite a while. Before Illusion's identity could be revealed, Robert finds himself in the "Illusion", facing a series of puzzles that he must survive by making use of nearby objects and all the cryptic clues he can find. The thing is, he's not alone. Other prisoners could help him but he faces many moral choices that won't be easy to make, leading to variety of different endings. The game is currently in development for Xbox One and will be released in the future.

Sentinels of Freedom

Underbite Games' turn-based strategy game just reached its Kickstarter funding target to bring it to Xbox One next year. The title draws inspiration from Sentinel Comics: The Roleplaying Game and features a campaign where players join forces with a team of heroes to take down a variety of villains. A seemingly ordinary bank heist turns into something much larger. Will you lead your team to victory and save the world?

Siralim 3

Siralim and Siralim 2 may never have made it to Xbox One, but developer Thylacine Studios promises the third instalment in the franchise will be heading this way. The monster taming RPG allows players to summon and customise over 700 creatures. These can then be used to help fight your way through procedurally-generated dungeons, finding rare treasure along the way. You'll be able to craft new items, upgrade your creatures and learn new spells as you spend as much time with the game as you can — there's no level cap and there's "an infinite amount of content" for you to discover when the title appears later this year.

Super Dungeon Tactics

At the bottom of the description for Sentinels of Freedom was a comment that the team's previous title would also be heading to Xbox One, this one arriving this summer. Another turn-based strategy title, this one places players in charge of 15 "traditional" RPG characters, each with their own unique abilities. You'll need to take on the Dark Consul's forces in the fantasy world of Crystalia, working your way through dungeons and defeating hordes of monsters along the way. A randomly rolled ability dice can turn the tides of battle, allowing players to boost stats or unlock abilities to use to their advantage. Will you be lucky?

Tour de France 2018

Now that the cycling season is well and truly underway, it's time for CYANIDE to turn their attention to their annual two-wheeled racing title. As usual, the game features the tournament's official track, along which players will fight to get the best trajectories and perform the best team racing tactics to get the yellow jersey and team victory. This year brings along a new game mode, Pro Leader. Here, players can create their own rider and work through his career, completing objectives, improving, and gradually gaining more responsibilities as the seasons progress. There's also a new team Progression System, an improved Fitness Peak System, new races (including Classics such as Paris-Roubaix), and more realistic AI. The title is due to hit stores on Xbox One on June 28th.
