IO Interactive Announces HITMAN 2 Coming This Year

By Andy Mills,
It's been quite the turn around for IO Interactive. Despite 2016's HITMAN being well-received from those who played it, the episodic nature seemed to turn some players off and eventually led to Square Enix parting ways with the Danish studio, leaving the developer's future up in the air. Now an independent company, IO has announced HITMAN 2, a sequel to the aforementioned soft reboot from 2016. It will be published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and is coming out as one full package this time around.

Despite the change back to a single release, IO is still promising a similarly global assassination adventure with "hyper-detailed sandboxes full of living, breathing environments to explore", although presumably Agent 47 will leave parts of them slightly less living and breathing. The first location to be revealed is the Floridian city of Miami, seen in the screenshots above as well as the game's reveal trailer, which just so happens to be narrated by Sean Bean. With his proclivity for death in many of the films and TV shows in which he appears, is it too much to hope the Yorkshire-born actor could end up as a hypothetical Elusive Target?

Those who played 2012's Hitman: Absolution — particularly those who pre-ordered the game — may well remember Hitman: Sniper Challenge, a mini-game where Agent 47 took down targets from afar with, surprise, surprise, a sniper rifle. It has returned, albeit with a slight name change to HITMAN Sniper Assassin. It is again a pre-order bonus available right now for the upcoming HITMAN 2, but has one major addition. This time, players will be able to team up with a friend to take out some targets together, although those who prefer a solo sniping experience can still do so. Check out both in action in the trailer below.

Prepare to enter a world of assassination when HITMAN 2 launches on Xbox One — with to-be-revealed X enhancements in the pipeline — on November 13th, with HITMAN: Sniper Assassin available now to anyone who pre-orders.
