Weekend Announcements June 15-17th: Enlisted, Nidhogg 2, Jengo and More

By Rebecca Smith,
Last weekend was E3. We managed to cover all of the titles that were announced during those conferences, as chaotic as they were, so we didn't need to run Weekend Announcements later that week. We do have to return this week, though, as we have nine new titles coming to Xbox One. The list is below; see if there's something that peaks your interest.

Aritana and the Twin Masks

Aritana is searching for Yaci's lost staff. His quest takes him to the long forgotten Temple of the Artisans where he discovers a masked man is about to use the staff to destroy the heart of the forest. Together with the spirit of the temple's protector and armed with Kuara's bow, Aritana must save the Tree of Life in a race against time. The trailer gave very little away so we don't know if this title will be a platformer like its predecessor. What we do know is the game is coming to Xbox One in February 2019.

Enlisted

Darkflow Software's "squad based MMO shooter" puts players in the roles of American, Soviet and German soldiers during massive WWII battles. Each battle will have hundreds of soldiers with AI controlled squads making battles more dynamic. The modes included when the game comes to Xbox Game Preview later this year include Invasion, Offensive, City Battle and Battle Royale. Invasion pits two teams against one another as one must capture and hold territory while the second tries to kill all invading soldiers. Offensive mode is larger; players can build fortifications, drive vehicles, and take control of large calibre guns. City Battles is similar to Offensive but for "multiple numbers of participants". Finally, Team Battle Royale puts players on a team representing one of the nations that fought in WW2.

Gekido Kintaro's Revenge

A year ago, an epic battle changed the fate of mankind and claimed the life of Angela. Now, dark omens foretell the return of the evil presence that caused that battle. Ushi is the only remaining master of Shin-Ken. Together with his adopted son Tetsuo, he must use his skills to investigate the strange events occuring in a farming village far beyond the city before there's another disaster. Naps Team's side-scrolling brawler will come to Xbox One in the future.

Jengo

Robot Wizard's point and click revels in the old-school way of thinking, where "you begin to look for the most inappropriate items combination possible and test it out to see if the developers have the same kind of sick mind as yours". It tells the story of Jeff, a gaming prodigy looking for the ultimate game, the one that would bring tears to his eyes and blisters on his thumbs. During his search he enters Old Meta, a lonely dumping ground on the edge of the Pixelverse. Here reside the Nobody-folk whose dreams have long since disappeared into a watering hole in the middle of the desert. Discouraged by the appearance of a large crack in the sky that consumes the land, they drink and gamble until the end, or a hero, arrives. Now that Jeff has arrived, perhaps he's the hero for whom they were waiting? The game will appear on Xbox One in the future.

Knights of Light

Rumbling Games' action adventure RPG is based on real historical events during the medieval period, such as the battles between the Sassanian empire and the Arab forces in Iraq. Despite being based on real events, the game will also feature fantasy elements that players can choose to follow. Throughout its estimated 60 hours of playing time, players will assume the role of the champion while also encountering several playable side characters, although details on these weren't given. The title will be available on Xbox One in the future.

Nidhogg 2

Messhof's original title never made it to Xbox One, but that won't stop the sequel from making an appearance on July 19th. All players have to do is make it from one side of the screen to the other while killing everything that gets in the way. How you do that is up to you, whether you use a sword, bow and arrows, or just a favourite boot to the face. It sounds simple, but it won't be, because the wurm doesn't care about the rules. When the game arrives on Xbox, it will come with two levels exclusive to the system.

Rainbow Billy: The Curse of the Leviathan

ManaVoid Entertainment's adventure RPG is inspired by Zelda, Pokémon, and Cuphead, the latter of which is obvious in the game's artwork. The Great Leviathan has emerged from the depths of the ocean. It's an event that happens merely once a millennium, but when it happens, the world is cursed to become monochromatic. Set in a "classic Disney-like universe", players sail the dark seas while defeating and capturing the Leviathan's monsters. They'll also need to rebuild the city of Star Harbor, collect treasures, and restore colour to the world. The game will be coming to Xbox One in September 2019.

Stoneshard

Ink Stains Games' upcoming title is an "open-world roguelike RPG with tactical freedom". Players assume the role of a mercenary in the medieval world of Aldor. The kingdom is about to fall and the future isn't looking bright. Then, a stranger makes a great offer: lead your own caravan, recruit allies and fight hordes of monsters on a dangerous journey through beautiful lands. Along the way, you'll need to survive disease, psychological trauma and party disputes. Prepare to die countless times in the process. The title is scheduled to hit Xbox One in December.

The Song of Seven

The Song of Seven is a "third-person adventure game" that tries to depict how our everyday fears stop us from reaching our full potential. Players explore a world filled with lots of stories, including those of forgotten celestial siblings, isolated villages, seafaring pirates, ghosts, monsters, leaders, artists, mystics, lovers, dancers, and inventors. Players need to solve environmental puzzles, talk to the many characters they'll meet, and learn the importance of making connections. Along the way, maybe they'll learn how to stop the fears from manifesting themselves and perhaps even how to defeat them. The title is due to arrive on Xbox One later this year.
