Duke Nukem Forever Gameplay Modes Detailed

The latest issue of OXM contained a host of new information regarding Duke Nukem Forever's multiplayer modes.

According to the article, the game will feature four gameplay modes: Dukematch and Team Dukematch, DNF's version of Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch modes, Hail to the King, DNF's version of King of the Hill, and Capture the Babe, the game's version of Capture the Flag. Everyone will be playing as Duke, so you can tell which team you're on due to whether you're wearing a red or a blue shirt. These modes will support a maximum of eight players, though team play is limited to four vs four only.

In a move which is likely to cause controversy, the Capture the Babe game mode features teams of Dukes trying to capture the other team's babe. Once you successfully do so, said babe will start to freak out about her sudden change in situation and players will have to calm her down with "a gentle smack".

Several details were also revealed about weapons and items which gamers will encounter during Duke Nukem's multiplayer. On the weapons side, the pistol, shotgun, ripper chaingun, pipebomb, rpg, shrinker, railgun, freezer, devestator, and tripbomb have all been confirmed as available weapons. Along with the pipebomb and tripbomb, you may carry two primary weapons.

In multiplayer, you will be able to become Holoduke just as you did in Duke Nukem 3D, only this time Duke gets cloaked making it easier to get sneak melees kills. If you don't want to use weapons for a little while and care to run faster, find Steroids as they will accomplish both those feats and allow you to do one hit kill punches. You'll also want to avoid being hit by the Shrinker as it will drop you to mini-Duke and your weapons will only do 10% of their normal damage.

As is the norm with multiplayer these days, killing other players will net you experience points which you can then spend on customizing your Duke. Basic kills will get you basic points, but funny or specialty kills will give you bonuses so you can level up your Duke faster.

Ten maps will be available at launch, including a remade Dukeburger in which all Dukes are miniature and an Old West town called "Morning Wood".

Duke Nukem Forever and its variety of Multiplayer modes will arrive on Xbox 360 on May 6th, 2011.
