Recently, we've been seeing a lot of treasured franchises being given remasters to bring them kicking and screaming into the modern age. We've had the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap, and the upcoming Spyro Reignited Trilogy, for example. Another franchise will be joining their ranks in just four months' time — Asterix & Obelix XXL 2 will be heading to Xbox One. The difference with this franchise, though, is that not only is it being remastered, there's a new original title in the works too. Asterix and Obelix XXL 3 will be making its debut next year.
Asterix & Obelix XXL 2 was originally released on PlayStation 2 and PC in 2005 (2006 in Europe). Julius Ceasar has made new plans to conquer the duo's home land of Gaul by building a new theme park called Las Vegum. Unfortunately, the village druid Getafix has sworn allegiance to Caesar and has travelled to the theme park. It's up to Asterix and Obelix to rescue him with the help of an undercover Roman spy, Sam Shieffer. Developer Osome Studio has teamed up with publisher Microïds to bring the title to Xbox One and the team promises that the many pop culture references found in the original game will remain intact in the remake.
As well as the standard edition, there will be a Limited Edition version of the title. The Limited Edition will include a copy of the game and three figurines of Asterix, Obelix and Dogmatix.
Details on the new action/adventure title Asterix and Obelix XXL 3 are scarce, although we're promised a new original story that's "set in a world that remains faithful to that of the comic books". Players will be able to play as either Asterix or Obelix in single player, or with a friend in co-op. There will be enemies to vanquish, places to explore and puzzles that need solving.
Asterix & Obelix XXL 2 will be released on November 29th. Asterix and Obelix XXL 3 will follow in 2019.
