DOOM Eternal Reveals Invasions Mode at Quakecon

By Rebecca Smith, 1 year ago
Over the weekend, Bethesda held their annual Quakecon event. Amongst the many presentations they held, id Software’s Marty Stratton and Hugo Martin took to the stage to reveal the first gameplay for Doom Eternal, as well as the upgraded Slayer character, upgraded enemies, weapons, and a new multiplayer game mode.

The Slayer will have redesigned armour and a variety of new and revamped weapons, such as the Super Shotgun with Meat Hook mod, and a shoulder-mounted cannon with flamethrower. He'll get to use these against the many different demons in the game — there are twice as many demons in DOOM Eternal — and include the classic Archvile, Pain Elemental, and Arachnotron. The first section of the 15 minutes of gameplay (beginning at 4:37) shows Hell on Earth, while the second section shows off a different environment in Phobos (beginning at 18:14).

The team also showed off a new game mode in Invasions (beginning at 12:28). Players will be able to take the role of a demon and invade the single player campaign of another player. Players will even be able to team up to create a "Slayer hunting party". Players can choose whether they want to open up their game to invasions. The full 25 minute stage show is below.

DOOM Eternal doesn't yet have a release window but we'll be sure to let you know when we hear more.

We don't have them yet, but we'll publish a story as soon as we pick up the Doom Eternal achievements.
