BurgerTime HD Coming to XBLA

By Rebecca Smith,
MonkeyPaw Games has finally broken their silence on another of the games industry's worst kept secrets and has confirmed that BurgerTime HD is in development and will be arriving on XBLA. Despite the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) rating the game back at the end of February, and the game even making an appearance at this year's Game Developers Conference, game details have only now been revealed to the media.

The "transformed" version of Data East's 29-year-old classic puzzler / platformer now uses a cylindrical playing field, where players take on the role of Chef Peter Pepper in his aim to create enormous hamburgers while fending off hostile wieners, condiments and spices. Players have to figure out the fastest way to the next burger by "strategically mapping the obstacle-littered platforms" and there are numerous different routes available.

The game will include several new features that weren't present in the original game; "starving bosses, pepper shakers and the devilish Mr Egg will be featured in Chef Peter Pepper's recipe for culinary dominance".

Multiplayer options include up to four players online, and a local split-screen option. IGN were able to film some two-player split-screen footage at this year's GDC:

It is not just the gameplay features that have been transformed; the graphics don't look bad either:
