KURSK Gameplay Gives a Glimpse of That Fateful Day

By Rebecca Smith,
The last time we got a glimpse of upcoming "documentary-adventure" game KURSK, it was to reveal that the game would give players a chance to explore the closed military city of Vidyayevo, the location from where the ill-fated K-141 Kursk submarine began its final journey. At Gamescom this week, developer Jujubee took the opportunity to show us gameplay footage that begins in this secretive location before taking us out to sea on the submarine.

The tragedy of the Kursk submarine occurred 18 years ago during a Russian naval training exercise. A series of explosions led to the sinking of the submarine and the deaths of all 118 crew members. The game is largely based on fact and will provide players with a glimpse into the events of that fateful day. The gameplay begins as Senior Warrant Officer Vasiliy arrives at Vidyayevo, before switching to a different character, Captain Gennady, as he arrives on the submarine. We then follow Gennady through the events that unfold.

What role did Gennady have in the disaster? I guess we'll find out when the game is released next spring.

We don't have them yet, but we'll publish a story as soon as we pick up the KURSK achievements.
