Sniper Elite V2 Announced

Developer Rebellion has announced that they are working on Sniper Elite V2, a sequel to the third person tactical WWII shooter Sniper Elite. Details on the sequel are thin on the ground, but Ian Howe, Managing Director of publisher 505 Games, had this to say:

We’re very excited to be working with Rebellion on this highly anticipated sequel. Sniper Elite has always been the benchmark of the genre and never been bettered....until now.

Guaranteed that the sequel will be the most authentic WW2 sniping experience ever – not just in terms of weapon ballistics, but also in delivering the heart-pulsing tension of those do or die moments where one shot really does matter.

Sniper Elite was originally released in 2005 on the Playstation 2, Xbox and PC. Players assumed the role of an OSS-trained sniper who had to disguise himself as a German soldier in the midst of World War II. Stealth and sniping skills had to be used to stop the Russians from stealing nuclear secrets from Berlin. To take the most accurate shot, players had to account for many factors, such as elevation, wind speed, posture, and background noise.

Sniper Elite V2 is due to be released in 2012.
