War Thunder Goes Free to Play

By Rebecca Smith, 3 months ago
An early access version of War Thunder launched on the Microsoft Store back in June. To gain access to the game then, players had to buy one of the Early Access Bundles that included vehicles, in-game credits and other goodies. Now that's no longer the case and those bundles have been delisted from the store because the game has changed to a free-to-play model. In the process, there's a new update that brings along combat helicopters, other new vehicles and a whole list of quality of life fixes.

Update 1.81 is codenamed the Valkyries update because its main feature is to introduce the aforementioned combat helicopters that can be used in a variety of game modes. The update also adds new ground vehicles, and a handful of other aircraft to go with all of the bug fixes and gameplay improvements it includes. You can find the full patch notes in the spoiler below.
