A Necessary Darkness in SMITE Fixes True Nightmare

By Rebecca Smith, 3 months ago
Hi-Rez continues to regularly update their MOBA SMITE with new content and quality of life fixes. This week saw the arrival of version 5.20, otherwise dubbed "A Necessary Darkness". The patch adds new God skins and other purchasable items, as well as the usual bug fixes players can expect to see. The most notable of these fixes is the True Nightmare achievement is now obtainable, although they failed to mention this in the patch notes. If that's not enough, there are two new achievements too.

New God skins have been added for Fiend Hunter Artio, Moonlit Scout Neith, Dragon Doggo Kukulkan, Convention 2019 Cerberus, Terra.Byte Terra, The Hunter Hou Yi, and Phoenix Ra. There are also new purchasable items for Hera's Odyssey, and the new Season 5 HRX Digital Loot Pack has arrived. You can see those purchasable items and the contents of the loot box in the spoiler below, before chacking out the new God skins in the images.

While the patch brings along plenty of bug fixes, the team has made "minimal" balance changes. This is because 5.20 is the build on which the HRX competition games will be played. To allow all of the players to gt enough practice time before they attend the competition, the only balance changes they've made are to Hera as she is a God not yet allowed in pro play. You can read the full patch notes in the spoiler below before having a look art the trailer for a brief overview.

As well as fixing the previously unobtainable True Nightmare achievement, the update has added two new achievements for players to earn:

SMITEArgus to the RescueThe Argus to the Rescue achievement in SMITE worth 120 pointsUnlock the SMITE Award "Argus to the Rescue."

SMITERoyal AssaultThe Royal Assault achievement in SMITE worth 117 pointsUnlock the SMITE Award "Royal Assault."

Unfortunately the Shattered Monolith achievement remains discontinued after being broken in a patch back in April. We'll be sure to let you know if that achievement is ever fixed.

We've got the full list of SMITE achievements - check the list for guides to unlocking them.
