Nearly two years ago, Ubisoft announced that they'd partnered up with Lightstorm Entertainment and Fox Interactive to create a new title based on James Cameron's Avatar franchise
. Developer Massive Entertainment was given the job of developing the title, but while we've heard plenty about their upcoming The Division 2
, there's been complete radio silence about the new Avatar
title... until this weekend. Last Friday, a trademark
was submitted to the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) by 20th Century Fox, making the name Avatar: Pandora Rising
available for use in games, "namely, game software, computer game and video game software" like Alien: Blackout
Four sequels to the first Avatar
film are currently in development. Avatar 2
was originally scheduled to be released in 2014, but it missed that mark significantly and is now looking at a release in cinemas at the end of 2020. With the principal photography stage of the film only being completed last month, it could explain why we've barely heard anything about the game that will likely release alongside it. However, with ten new titles promised to be revealed at The Game Awards on Thursday, December 6th, could we be hearing something sooner rather than later? We'll be sure to let you know as soon as we do.
