Kinda Funny Games Showcases Plenty of Upcoming Indie Titles

By Rebecca Smith,
After all of the hustle and bustle of The Game Awards had passed, Kinda Funny Games held their own showcase of over 60 different titles in the space of just over an hour. Not only did they reveal the release date for The Walking Dead: The Final Season Episode 3, break down the latest trailer for Anthem, and announce a new game update for Human: Fall Flat, they released plenty of new trailers for upcoming indie titles and even sprinkled in a few release dates to boot.

If you want to see the showcase in full, including brief mentions of The Occupation, Virgo vs the Zodiac, Log Jammers and Thunder Rally, you can see it below. If you just want to view the separate trailers, carry on past the video.

Aftercharge

One of three games to get a release date, Chainsawesome Games' 3v3 multiplayer shooter will be arriving on Xbox One on January 10th, 2019. When it arrives, it will have cross-play between PC and Xbox One, and will include cross-play with Nintendo Switch when that version releases later. If you fancy trying it out before that date, the "Ultimate Aftercharge Beta Weekend" begins on December 14th — you can sign up for it here.

At Sundown

A bit later on in January, Mild Beast Games' "hide-and-seek shooter" will be released on Xbox One. Hide in the dark, avoid the light and scream at your friends when the game is released on January 22nd, 2019.

AWAY: Journey to the Unexpected

Game creator Aurelien Regard appeared at the show to give a brief rundown of his upcoming first person adventure game in collaboration with Jean-Matthieu Gennisson and Playdius. As well as plenty of combat, the new trailer revealed the game will be arriving on Xbox One on February 8th, 2019.

Super Meat Boy Forever

Originally due to release this year, Team Meat's latest venture is now scheduled to appear in April 2019. Their latest trailer shows what happens when you steal someone's baby and then place plenty of circular saws, flies, ghosts, razor wire and a giant tree feller in between them and their child. Spoiler: it's not a pretty sight.

Supermarket Shriek

A man and his goat hurtle around a supermarket trying to get to the exit without creating too much mess. While not a new trailer as such, the version shown at the Games Showcase did say the game was aiming to be released on Xbox One next year.

The Church in the Darkness

The latest trailer for this "top-down action-infiltration game" lets players meet some of the characters living in the compound of the cult of The Collective Justice Mission in Freedom Town. Find out why they left their lives in the US to join the cult in South America, and why some of them are now regretting that decision. You can meet the characters for yourself on Xbox One next year.

The Wild Eight

HypeTrain Digital's title isn't just any old survive against all odds title. It shows what happens when the wild mutates and begins to fight back. Whatever the creature is in this new trailer, it's going to be very dangerous. It's just one of many things of which you'll need to be wary when the game is released in August 2019.

Toejam and Earl: Back in the Groove

Last but by no means least, Humanature Studios recruited Freddie Prinze Jr. to introduce the newest trailer for their title. ToeJam describes the regimen he uses to get ready for his latest adventure. Unfortunately for him, it seems like it's all going to waste. As announced last week, this game will appear on Xbox One on March 1st, 2019.

Which of these titles will you be getting next year?
