It's the third week of our Xbox Gameplay Chart, only this time we're making an important change. Instead of showing the top 20 games, we'll now be showing the top 40 most played games on Xbox. Is Red Dead Redemption 2 still dominating the charts? Have recent game updates, DLC or festive events made any difference? You can see the top 40 most played games in the full chart below.

In a week that saw no new retail releases, Red Dead Redemption 2 still keeps the top spot, although the initial buzz created by the arrival of the Red Dead Online beta appears to be waning. Fortnite and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 also keep #2 and #3 respectively. In fact, the only real notable difference in the top 10 is that Overwatch climbs three spots into #10, likely due to the start of the Winter Wonderland 2018 event. To make way for it, Fallout 76 drops four spots into #11.

Continuing in the top half of the chart, Grand Theft Auto V, Minecraft, and Gears of War 4 all increase their player numbers and their position in the chart this week. The first got new content for GTA Online, the second got new DLC, and the third began its 12 Days of Gearsmas event. Forza Horizon 4 also got new content this week, although it wasn't enough to make up the significant gap between it and COD: BO4. Heading into the bottom half of the chart, Warframe saw the most dramatic change in position for this reason, climbing 13 places to #22 due to the Fortuna update.

Most of this week's drama happened in the bottom half of the chart. The only new entry of the week was BELOW, which made its debut at #23 thanks to its inclusion in Xbox Game Pass on day one. Now that the initial rush of players wishing to try out the new Game Pass additions has gone, Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden drops 14 places, while Games With Gold addition Q.U.B.E. 2 drops 7 places. Ashen and Mortal Kombat X continue to hold their own in the top half of the chart.

Finally, Monster Hunter: World was our biggest climber of the week, reaching #25 thanks to the recent free weekend. The Crew 2, which also had a free weekend, unfortunately just missed out on the chart.
