The Year of the Harbinger begins in For Honor on January 31st. Ubisoft has promised Year 3 will continue to bring new content and gameplay updates throughout its duration. Some of those additions include four new heroes, and the first of those has been revealed in a new cinematic trailer. Meet Vortiger, the Dark Hero who will be joining the Knight Faction.
Vortiger is the leader of the Black Priors, and is armed with a longsword and large kite shield. While he fights alongside the Knights, like his fellow Black prior brethren, he doesn't heed to their code of chivalry.
Vortiger is the first of the heroes to arrive on January 31st for those who purchase the Year 3 Pass. Seven days later, all other players can unlock the new hero for a cost of 15,000 Steel. He will then be followed by an anonymous Samurai hero between May and July, a Viking hero between August and October, and a Wu-Lin hero at the end of the year. We'll be sure to let you know when we get more details on each of those three heroes.
Harbor, a new Dominion map, will also be added to the game on January 31st for all players. The map is set in a port town on the shore of Lake Eitrivatnen. It's the location of a previous battle where the Black Priors and Knights joined forces to repel a common enemy despite impossible odds. Now a highly contested area, many value its location as part of their strategy.
In the meantime, the team will be performing maintenance on the game's servers today, January 17th, from 8:00 AM ET / 13:00 PM UTC. The maintenance is expected to last for 45 minutes and aims to tighten matchmaking relaxation parameters so that players are matched more on skill than reputation. The developer has promised that they'll roll the changes back if they result in "bad matchmaking experiences or if the average matchmaking time is increased".
