Mortal Kombat 11 Developers Are Looking Into Cross-Play

Given the way the conversation has gone in the last year, it's perhaps unsurprising that most multiplayer developers are telling us that they're "looking into" cross-play. Mortal Kombat 11 is just the latest of these.

The news comes to us from the London event that took place last week, courtesy of an on-site reporter for WccfTech who put the question to Game Designer Derek Kirtzic.

Cross-play won't be there for the game's launch, but apparently the team is looking into cross-play and is hopeful that it's possible. It will certainly be made more possible thanks to the fact that MK 11 is getting an upgrade to Unreal Engine 4 compared to previous entries, plus Epic's new online service that opens up Fortnite's cross-play tools to any developers looking to use them.

However, it's news that we should take with a pinch of salt. There's likely not many multiplayer developers who would give a different answer to a reporter — in an ideal world we're sure most developers would be happy to include cross play. However that doesn't mean it's going to happen, and it's worth remembering that the real fire behind the Fortnite controversy was that accounts were locked to a console, not that everyone wanted to buddy up with players on other consoles.

Mortal Kombat 11 arrives on April 23rd.

We don't have them yet, but we'll publish a story as soon as we pick up the Mortal Kombat 11 achievements.
