Psyonix have announced that their Friends Update for Rocket League is arriving in just under a week. This will bring cross-play along with improvements to Friends navigation generally – plus new Modes for Free Play.
As well as adding cross-play, the Friends Update adds a new Friends List to the game's main menu, allowing players to see all of their Rocket League friends in one place regardless of their platform. Every player will be auto-assigned a RocketID after this update, which will be the player's username plus four random numbers (not dissimilar to how Discord currently operates). Players will be able to change the word portion of your RocketID.
The List will also include a Recent Players tab so players can quickly add people they enjoyed playing with to their Rocket League friends list, while the Alert tab covers Friend Requests, Party Invites and Club Invites. Clubs will be cross-platform as of this update as well.
Elsewhere Dropshot, Hoops, Snow Day and Rumble are all being added to Free Play so players can play those modes as much as they want. The amount of Weekly Wins left will now display after each game. Finally, the update will deliver rewards to players according to their placement in Competitive Season 9.
The Friends Update is coming to Rocket League on February 19th — pending first-party certification.
