Dead Cells To Receive Huge Free DLC This Spring

By James Kearle, 24 days ago
In the eyes of many, brutal action-platformer Dead Cells was the darling of the independent scene in 2018. The game not only received universal critical acclaim but also managed to obtain a plethora of awards, including "Best Indie Game" at the Golden Joystick Awards, and "Best Action Game" at the Game Awards. On the back of its success, creators Motion Twin has recently released a documentary showcasing the story behind Dead Cells' development. Perhaps more exciting to fans, however, is their announcement that its first DLC, reportedly titled "Rise of the Giant" (Eurogamer), is due this Spring for free.

Whilst Motion Twin describe the game is already "complete" in its existing state, the "huge" upcoming DLC is said to add an "extra layer of quality" and further contextual understanding to the game's narrative. The DLC is also stated to be the amalgamation of over nine months work, which indicates that the developers were working on this extra content whilst also finalizing the development of Dead Cells. If you want to hear the team's own thoughts on the upcoming DLC, feel free to watch the documentary in itself entirety below (8:50 - 9:32 for specific reference to the DLC).

Although this undoubtedly comes as great news for fans, there is a caveat – this will likely be the only expansion. Although this can't be confirmed categorically, the conclusion of the documentary states that Dead Cells is "finally complete", and that the focus is now on their next adventure.
