Mortal Kombat 11 Story Trailer Blends the Past and Present

By Rebecca Smith, 17 days ago
NetherRealm Studios has taken a break from revealing kombatants for their upcoming fighter Mortal Kombat 11 in favour of their latest trailer that looks at the game's story mode instead. Well, we say that, but the trailer also confirms three more fighters to join the roster at the same time.

After Raiden killed the Elder God, Shinnok, the balance between good and evil was upset, or at least it was in the eyes of Kronika, the Keeper of Time. The only way that she can find to rebalance the two sides is to send time back to the beginning and start all over again. The result is a campaign that will allow players to take on the roles of fighters past and present as they defeat Shao Khan’s Outworld armies and restore balance to the universe. As said before, three more of those kombatants are revealed in the trailer, so keep your eyes open:

Joining the 13 previously confirmed kombatants are Cassie Cage, Jacqui Briggs and Erron Black, all three of whom were leaked in the Steam achievement list. It's worth noting that while Kotal Kahn is also in the trailer, he has not yet been confirmed as a playable character. You can get the lowdown on the three new fighters below:

  • Cassie Cage, the commander of an elite Special Forces unit and daughter of the iconic duo, Sonya Blade and Johnny Cage, employs her lethal fighting skills to win every battle, with a relentless drive to measure up to her parents’ legacy. Additional gameplay featuring Cassie Cage will be showcased today, March 6, at 3:00 p.m. CST, during this week’s Kombat Kast on the NetherRealm Twitch channel.
  • Jacqui Briggs, a competitive fighter trained in kickboxing and martial arts, follows in the footsteps of her father, Jax Briggs, as a member of the Special Forces. She believes her duty is to protect Earthrealm and her family, no matter the risk.
  • Erron Black is a thrill-seeking outlaw hooked on the adrenaline of chasing his own pursuits. Black is a skilled crack shot selling his services to the highest bidder while dressed in classic western Outworld attire.
This brings the total number of confirmed fighters to 16, alongside Baraka, D'Vorah, Geras, Jade, Johnny Cage, Kabal, Kano, Raiden, Scorpion, Skarlet, Sonya Blade, Sub-Zero, and pre-order exclusive Shao Khan. More news and reveals are promised before the game's release on April 23rd, so keep your eyes open for those.

We don't have them yet, but we'll publish a story as soon as we pick up the Mortal Kombat 11 achievements.
