Safe Schools for Alex is a nonprofit organisation that aims to improve safety in schools by providing guidance on how to protect students and school staff in the event of a shooting incident. It was set up by Max Schachter, whose son Alex was tragically killed in the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida in February 2018. To raise and support awareness for Safe Schools for Alex, NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 has released a free update that highlights the worthy cause and celebrates the school's marching band.
The update includes a new court, new sound bites from "celebrities, athletes and influencers", and an audience made up of a variety of familiar faces. The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Jazz Band's cover of Chicago’s song "25 or 6 to 4" will be joining the soundtrack, while Vanilla Ice also adds a new rap and soundbites.
The free Safe Schools for Alex update is due to be released today. In addition to this, developer Saber Interactive and publisher 2K have promised to match all donations made to the Safe Schools for Alex cause up to the value of US$100,000. If you wish to donate to the cause, you can do so here.
