Ever since PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds took the gaming world by storm, the battle royale has become the big thing in gaming with Fortnite, Call Of Duty and even Tetris getting in on the last man standing action. Well, they could all soon be set to face some stiff competition from acclaimed developer FromSoftware if an interview with the company's president and Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice director Hidetaka Miyazaki is anything to go by. Speaking to Tom Hoggins at The Telegraph, Miyazaki had this to say when asked about trying their hand at the popular genre.
There’s always the possibility. These games are definitely fun. And we’re interested in the patterns they are taking. If we did it, it might be a bit different! But we’re definitely interested and there’s definitely that possibility in the future. We’d love to take a crack at them some day.
A battle royale by FromSoftware would certainly garner plenty of interest. But would it be inspired by the likes of Dark Souls and Bloodborne — a "Battleborne" if you will — or with the developer's history including Armored Core, Chromehounds and Metal Wolf Chaos, is some multiplayer mecha-madness more likely? Regardless of the form the game would take, it'll have to wait until after the studio is done with Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, which releases on March 22nd.
