Similar to previous years, Sonic had a presence at the South by Southwest (SXSW for short) series of festivals in Austin, Texas that wrapped up yesterday. With no other Sonic titles to show off, the focus was firmly on Sumo Digital's upcoming Team Sonic Racing with not one, not two but three videos involving the racing game. The first is a trailer that shows off some of the customisation options that players will have from performance modifications like different engines and wheels to more cosmetic changes like paint, vinyls and different horns, all to the tune of a remix of Final Egg from Sonic Adventure.
The second video is equally worth listening to as the folks at SEGA have released another piece of music from the upcoming game. This time, Japanese chiptune artist TORIENA has collaborated with longtime Sonic musician Jun Senoue to bring us "Bingo Party", a remix of Sonic Heroes' Bingo Highway.
The third and final video is the first episode of "Team Sonic Racing: Overdrive", an animated series from Tyson Heese and Neko Productions, who gave us "Sonic Mania Adventures" as well as the beautiful opening animation for Sonic Mania. This first episode, titled "Dangerous Distractions", shows a battle between Team Sonic (Sonic, Tails and Knuckles) vs Team Rose (Amy, the Chaos and Big The Cat) with Big the Cat looking to get his furry paws on a Froggy t-shirt. That'll make more sense when you watch the video below.
Finally, to close the panel at SXSW, Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka did announce that the next Sonic game is currently in development. With no further details however, this will probably be one we're waiting for a while for. Team Sonic Racing on the other hand will be out in just a couple of months, releasing on May 21st.
We don't have them yet, but we'll publish a story as soon as we pick up the Team Sonic Racing achievements.
