Founded by brothers and Vicarious Visions founders Guha and Karthik Bala back in 2016, Velan Studios is a studio with talent that has worked on the likes of Metroid Prime, Uncharted, Super Mario Maker and more. Now they've revealed that their first game will be published with EA via the recently revived EA Partners label that brought us Bulletstorm, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, Shadows of the Damned and more in the past.
Little is known about the game at the moment aside from that it promises to "pioneer an entirely new and entertaining way to experience team-based action". What Rob Letts, General Manager of EA Partners and EA Originals, has seen of the title has him excited about the partnership at least, having this to say about the team up with Velan:
Velan’s vision for this new game experience is very inspiring, and when we played it, we were immediately captured by how engaging and unexpectedly compelling it was. Helping discover pioneering talent with ground-breaking games the world needs to play is what we’re here to do, and we look forward to partnering with Velan to deliver an experience that will push the boundaries of original IP and innovation to engage players in new ways.Naturally, both Bala brothers were excited about partnering with someone the size of EA for the studio's first game, with Guha particularly thankful for the help EA have provided:
In EA Partners, we found a team devoted to bringing breakthrough ideas to players everywhere. They believe in our creative vision and will use their best-in-class resources to support the success of our game. We started Velan Studios to make community-centered play experiences that are daring and distinctive from what’s being played today. We can’t wait to share the details of our first original game in the future.Karthik then took some time to focus on what those resources will allow Velan Studios to do, which will including doubling the size of the studio from 40 to 80:
Exploring the boundaries of play with new technology and play patterns is what makes us tick. Our plan was always simple: build an awesome team, find the magic in something new that the team was passionate about and then enable their success. We are looking forward to introducing their vision and evolving it along with players for many years to come.In the past, this sounds like exactly the kind of thing EA would officially unveil at their E3 conference. With a livestream in its place this year, we expect it to appear sometime soon.
