Mortal Kombat 11 Compares Old Skool with New Skool

By Rebecca Smith, 24 days ago
Last night was the first of PlayStation's State of Play video streams. While that wouldn't usually be of any interest to us, they did showcase a brand new trailer for upcoming fighter Mortal Kombat 11. The Old Skool vs. New Skool trailer once again focuses on the game's story, showcasing a range of past and present fighters from the franchise's history. It even results in current characters clashing with alternate versions of themselves.

Throughout the game's story mode, not every character will get to meet a past version of themselves. Of those that do, some will join forces, while others' egos get in the way of that happening. Others are forced apart by tragic consequences. Regardless, players will get a better insight into many of the franchise's characters as the story progresses, some of which you can see in the new trailer. Three more fighters are also revealed in the trailer, so keep your eyes open:

Joining the 19 previously confirmed kombatants are Liu Kang, Kung Lao, and Jax Briggs. You can get the lowdown on the three new fighters below:

  • Liu Kang, the greatest of the Shaolin monks, was an orphan adopted and trained in the arts of combat by the Shaolin order. He was handpicked by Raiden to be Earthrealm’s Mortal Kombat champion and chief defender.
  • Kung Lao joined the Shaolin monks in a quest to become Earthrealm’s new Mortal Kombat champion. Reckless and rebellious, but courageous and indomitable, Kung Lao fights to prove worthy of his glorious ancestors.
  • Major Jackson “Jax” Briggs was a decorated veteran of the Special Forces whose life changed forever when he fought in the Mortal Kombat tournament. His duty was now clear—he would defend Earthrealm against Outworld and the Netherrealm.
This brings the total number of confirmed fighters to 22, alongside Baraka, Cassie Cage, D'Vorah, Erron Black, Geras, Jacqui Briggs, Jade, Johnny Cage, Kabal, Kano, Kotal Kahn, Noob Saibot, Raiden, Scorpion, Skarlet, Sonya Blade, Sub-Zero, pre-order exclusive Shao Khan, and DLC character Shang Tsung. More news and reveals are promised before the game's release on April 23rd, so keep your eyes open for those.

We don't have them yet, but we'll publish a story as soon as we pick up the Mortal Kombat 11 achievements.
