Red Dead Online Beta Target Races Now Available

By Rebecca Smith, 30 days ago
Last month, Rockstar revealed they'd be bringing Target Races to Red Dead Redemption 2's Online Beta, and the game mode has been added with today's update. Players must race to the finish line, passing through checkpoints and shooting targets as they go. As well as the new game mode, there's bonus XP on offer in other activities, new clothing, and a range of discounts.

Target Races

Players begin a Target Race with just a bow and arrow. Each target hit increases the stamina of your horse, increasing sprinting time, as does any stamina pickup you encounter along the course and riding in your opponent's slipstream. There are weapon pickups too, allowing access to firearms with a limited supply of ammo. While weapons can be used for shooting targets, there's also the option to take out opponents, and kicking their horses will reduce their stamina, as well as offering the chance to knock them down.

All online activities this week will offer a 20% XP boost. Meanwhile, there is 25% off every item in the Horse Care Section of the Stables and the Wheeler, Rawson & Co Catalogue, such as medicines, revivers, stimulants, and the brush. Improved Saddles also have a discount of 25% this week. Finally, there's some new clothing:
  • Morning Tail Coat
  • Strickland Boots
  • Bowyer Boots (Female only)
  • Furred Gloves
Target Races and the new clothing are available now. More updates are promised for the weeks ahead, including the Up In Smoke and Plunder Showdown modes. There will also be a bigger spring update that will add a hostility system, more offensive and defensive player options, new missions, and improved dynamic events. As soon as we get more details on these, we'll be sure to let you know.
