Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Introduces Ancient Evil

By Rebecca Smith, 29 days ago
With Xbox One players being a week behind PlayStation 4 players in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, it means we can always get advanced warning of upcoming content for the game. While this week's patch tunes weapons in multiplayer and Blackout, as well as a few other fixes and improvements, the main draw is seeing what we can expect next week with the arrival of the "Ancient Evil" Zombies episode. We even get a glimpse of the episode intro and the High Priest of Chaos too.

Ancient Evil

The main feature of this week's update is the weapon tuning across all three modes. Most of these updates affect ADS speeds and extended damage ranges, but the most notable change has been the increase in size of the Paladin HB50's magazine size. In Blackout, Outrider’s Sparrow and Zero’s EMP Disruptor now appears in Supply Stashes, escalating Collapse damage has been added to the final circle, co-pilot support is now available in the helicopter and cargo truck, and glare has been reduced on the springtime map. You can see a full list of changes in the patch notes here.

The seven day exclusivity window for PS4 players means Xbox One players will get the "Ancient Evil" Zombies episode, the final episode of the Chaos saga, next Tuesday, April 2nd. Scarlett, Diego, Bruno, and Shaw enter the forgotten underground city of Delphi. The Oracle of Delphi can provide the answer on how the quartet can free Scarlett's father, Alistair Rhodes. They'll also discover the power of the Prima Materia, but the city is full of undead residents also seeking to be freed from their torment, so it won't be an easy task. You can see the episode intro cinematic below:

There's also a glimpse into the back story of the High Priest of Chaos. Will players manage to beat him to the Prima Materia?

When the episode is added, the team will also add a new Perk, Zombshell. This perk creates a chance that ordinary zombies will explode when killed. They'll leave behind a contamination field that slows other zombies and increases the amount of damage players can deal to enemies caught in the field. When players are stood in the field, they'll be invisible to zombies and have an increased reload speed. There will also be five new Elixirs — Suit Up (Epic), Dividend Yield (Legendary), Talkin’ Bout Regeneration (Rare), Bullet Boost (Common), and Quacknarok (Classic Whimsical) — and two new Talismans in the form of Glowing Phylactery (Epic) and Battered Dragon Scale (Legendary).

In terms of Multiplayer, the Barebones option will add a "more old-school MP experience" to Core and Hardcore in the Featured category. There will be 6v6 Team Deathmatch and Domination modes free of Specialist Weapons, Special Issue Equipment, Gear, and Operator Mods. Equipment can only be used once with no cooldowns and there is no Spawn Select.

Finally, next week players will get a free Weapon Crate in the Black Market. The crate will guarantee two Reserves items and a MKII Signature Weapon that will give a 25% XP bonus per kill.
