Samurai Shodown Reveals Its Entire Roster

By Rebecca Smith, 11 days ago
When Samurai Shodown was confirmed for Xbox One two weeks ago, the roster was set to include 16 characters, three of which were new. SNK has now confirmed the full roster and introduced us to those new characters.

The first new character is Darli Dagger. After becoming shipwrecked at an early age, she was taught to build many things by carpenters, while pirates taught her how to survive. She's now a shipwright who can use various tools in ways that they certainly weren't intended. When using them properly, she's building an unsinkable ship at the island's workshop.

The second new character is Wu-Ruixiang. She's descended from an ancient feng shui clan and she currently serves the Qing dynasty. To protect the generations of long mai, she travels wherever the emperor commands her to go. While wise, she's clumsy and dislikes exercise, which doesn't sound like a natural combination for a fighter. Despite this, she can call forth the powers of divine beasts, such as a dragon, to help her when needed.

The final new character is Yashamaru Kurama, who is a young, fallen samurai. His father was executed under false pretences, and he holds a deep grudge against the Shogunate as a result. He also despises villains who steal from the poor, and has become known as a chivalrous thief called “Karasu Tengu", or the Crow-Billed Goblin. His weapon of choice is his memento nagamaki sword, and he also has the ability to use the power of the tengu (long-nosed goblin).

The roster is completed by 13 returning characters: Charlotte, Earthquake, Galford, Genjuro Kibagami, Hanzo Hattori, Haohmaru, Jubei Yagyu, Kyoshiro Senryo, Nakoruru, Shiki, Tam Tam, Ukyo Tachibana, and Yoshitora Tokugawa. They can all be seen in images below, before heading into battle in the character trailer:

You'll be able to try out the 16 fighters when the game is released in June. Players who live in Japan do have a more definite release date of June 27th, but western regions only have the more general release window.

We don't have them yet, but we'll publish a story as soon as we pick up the SAMURAI SHODOWN achievements.
