While Assassin's Creed Unity followed a fictional story of the Assassins and Templars during the French Revolution, the setting of Paris included many real-world locations. One of those locations was the cathedral of Notre Dame, which suffered a devastating fire at the beginning of this week. In solidarity with Ubisoft's fellow Parisians, the publisher will be donating €500,000 towards the fund to rebuild and reconstruct the cathedral.
Another way the developer may possibly be able to help is by offering up their digital blueprints of the building. Level designer Caroline Miousse spent a significant amount of time studying photos and working with texture artists to make sure the game's main centrepiece was depicted as accurately as they could.
In the meantime, Ubisoft is currently offering PC players the chance to experience the digital version of the cathedral for themselves for free by giving away Assassin's Creed Unity on Uplay for one week. If you feel like grabbing a free copy of the game, you can do so through the Ubisoft Store or through the official site.
