When the next Assassin's Creed Odyssey DLC set — The Fate of Atlantis — launches next week, Ubisoft will offer a shortcut to the content to players who don't want to grind through the the required level. However, there's a big catch for achievement hunters: if you take this route, achievements will be locked out.
No gamerscore for you!
While many of its contemporaries such as The Witcher 3 offer the same shortcut to expansion content without allowing progress to cross back into the main game, Odyssey is unusual in that apparently achievements are also excluded if you decide to jump straight into the DLC. This is particularly irritating for those of us who might use DLC expansions for some of our own TrueAchievements community challenges, as a shortcut to a conveniently titled achievement name.
If you do decide you want to access the Fate of Atlantis expansion this way, you will basically be able to roll as a level 52 character straight into Ancient Greece, but with none of the equipment or narrative decision making of your character in the base game. Equally content and experiences you have in Atlantis won't cross back over to your base game save.
To access the new content normally with their existing character — and to earn those achievements — players will have to complete the Main Quest mission Between Two Worlds, defeating all of the mythological bosses in the base game. They will also have to complete the new Heir of Memories questline, a Lost Tales of Greece mission that only appears after completing the above. Finally, players will have to be level 28 or higher to access the DLC from within their base game save.
The first episode of Fate of Atlantis arrives on April 23rd.
