Last year, Belgium and Netherlands ruled that they considered loot boxes to violate the countries' gambling rules and asked for changes to be made to the games they feel broke those rules. The result has seen some titles, such a FIFA 19 and PES 2019 remove microtransactions from the games in those countries. Others, such as Fortnite, made changes to their loot boxes to make the contents visible. Rocket League is a title that's now gone down the former route. The latest patch that arrived this week has now removed Crates with Keys from the game in both of those countries.
As well as removing the loot boxes, patch v1.61 added new customisation items to the Esports shop, added HDR support for the Xbox One S, and added the ability to create and edit screenshots while viewing replays. You can see the full patch notes here. Meanwhile, Rocket Pass 3 is now running. The Free Pass offers over 20 rewards, such as a Fireworks animated decal, Hammerhead Shark topper, and M8 wheels, just by playing online matches. The Premium Pass offers over 70 rewards, including a new battle car, goal explosion, and keys, as well as an initial 50% XP bonus. You can see a full list of rewards here. The Premium Pass costs 10 Keys.
The pass comes with a new Weekly Challenge system with three new challenges being added every Wednesday at 10 a.m. PDT / 5 p.m. UTC for free players, and six new challenges added for Premium Pass players. Completing each challenge will reward players with three, five, or eight Tier Points. Once a player has accumulated ten Tier Points, they'll unlock the next Rocket Pass Tier. Levelling up will also grant ten Tier Points, so players won't just have to complete the challenges to level up their Rocket Pass. You can take a look at the challenges and the rest of the Rocket Pass in the trailer below.
Patch v1.61 and Rocket Pass 3 are available now, the latter running until July 29th.
