The TrueAchievements News & Editorial Team Is Recruiting!

By Sam Quirke, 1 month ago
Once again, we’re on the hunt for fresh-faced volunteers who would like to help us put the best news and content on the home page. As a news writer, you will be writing up the latest headlines, editing and approving the news stories of your fellow hounds and pitching ideas.

However, this year we’re doing things a little differently. We are also looking for volunteers who are actively interested in writing reviews and editorials to join the news team. We want to expand the range of games that we review and the voices that we share in our opinion pieces, and we’d love for some of the community to get involved in that.

What does the role involve?

The priority is to help the news team cover headlines in busy periods, or when headlines hit out of hours. Most of the long-term hounds are based in the UK and cover the UK daytime shift, so we would be especially interested in volunteers who are available in US working hours or US evenings. Applicants from all time zones are of course welcome to apply.

The main job is to write news accurately and promptly, and to proof-read the work of others before publication. We would like hounds to aim for 2-3 articles per week on average as a minimum. We are also looking for people to help us cover busy periods, such as Inside Xbox streams and E3 2019.

We also want new recruits to get involved with reviews and editorial work. Editorials can be anything from long-form opinion pieces to beginner’s guides, listicles to interviews, stats analysis to game-specific features. We really want your voices and your ideas.

What’s in it for me?

As we said above, this is a volunteer position. However, writing reviews naturally leads to receiving review codes. You get your name on the home page. If you’re interested in a journalism career you can add the world’s biggest Xbox community site to your portfolio, and get a great insight into the editorial process too. You also get to have a direct voice in shaping our content.

How do I apply?

Head over to this Google Form and submit answers to our questions. Because we are looking for writers with a broad range, this year we are looking for the following writing samples. (No images or video required — just text!)
  • An article about a current or recent piece of gaming news, using our format
  • A review of a recent game (released in 2018 or 2019), minimum 1000 words, using our format (+ / - not required)
  • An editorial of your choosing (listicle, feature, opinion piece), minimum 600 words
Applications should be sent in by Friday, May 3rd, 23:59 UTC.

As always we are so very grateful for the contributions our community make. If you have any questions, please let me know.
